Having fun at the El Rio karaoke night


It turns out that people are even more interested in woman’s lube wrestling than karaoke, so for the first hours or so most of the people where in the back room watching the lube wrestling. That did not stop the karaoke fun, however. There were about 20 people at the bar at any point, but no singers so I sang 10 consecutive songs while jamming with the Jaminator and loved it. People were quite entertained with my back to back singing and solo air guitar playing and I had a blast being a ham.

Then Seth, the birthday boy for the night, signed up for Hall & Oats Private Eye and the night was rolling. Every song seemed to get better and better. I had people constantly signing up to sing, but there were never more than three people on the list even though the bar was packed. People were dancing, full of great energy and having a blast and the people who wanted to sing sang with almost no wait! It was fabulous.

People also loved the Jaminator. Several people grabbed it just so they could have their picture taken with it and there were constantly people jamming on it. I <3 karaoke at El Rio!

N'Touch Reunion at Deco Lounge Karaoke–playlist 4.27.10

I forgot my camera tonight, which was a shame since it was there was a reunion of N’Touch old-timers tonight. Stewart, the former owner of N’Touch was in town and the old N’Touch crowd came out.

I have been interested in learning more about N’Touch for a while now. I had been hearing stories about the place ever since it closed about 3 years ago and then when I started hosting karaoke at the Deco Lounge, it turned out that its karaoke roots, as well as that of Encore Karaoke, all stem back to N’Touch. There was a lot of catching up going on and I was hosting, but I did get one lingering question answered tonight and N’Touch started doing karaoke in 1993.

There were, of coarse, some amazing singers again tonight and I would have loved to have captured some of the performances on video. Maybe I will get photos and some more information for a later post, but for now, here is the playlist.

Club Six Karaoke–playlist 4.26.2010

Ladies Rapping at Club Six Karaoke Club Night

Club Six came into its own last night in honor of “Chuck’s” birthday. The crowd arrived around 10pm and rap-ed the house right up until the 2am wire with an amazing mostly rap block. The stage was full most of the night as people joined in to help each other out. The vibe was great. There were many highlights of the night, but one of the big ones for me was when Nee Nee got on stage and the family (mostly her kids and their spouses) joined in to sing along.

Around 12:30 Yuka and Nick came in, straight from a rap-off competition. They sang a couple songs and signed up for Freebird. Normally I preface that choice by telling people I will cut off the 4 1/2 minute outro of the song, but in this case Country (one of the door guys) jammed like I have never seen anyone jam before. I mean, he could have won the national air guitar competition with that one. It was insane and I wish I had a video to show you…the pictures just barley scratch the surface of what he did on stage. His guitar of choice was the “Guitar Hero” guitar…hmmm, wonder what he does with his spare time;)

Then the ladies took charge for a bit and chilled the place down with some funky tunes in a small chill block…while they chilled out on the stage.

The two for one drinks flowed and people had a great time…the 2 4 1 special is all night, but come early and sing a bunch of songs before the crowds arrive.

We closed the night with a Don’t Stop Believing and Wanted Dead Or Alive sing-along. There were a bunch of people on stage.

I need more rap songs…. I am buy some now, but any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I still have close to 1000 download credits available from TriceraSoft, so check out what is available from their download site and let me know and I will buy it for you…you can tip me when you sing it:)

Dalva karaoke playlist 4.25.10

Another great night of karaoke at Dalva. There was some mean air guitar action happening, a very fun crowd and some great singers in the crowd. Patrick Maloney busted out an amazing version of the Led Zeppelin song “Good Times Bad Times” and Brian’s version of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” was absolutely beautiful. There were actually a lot of great singers and the sound was very good.

There were no true rock blocks last night, although there was a David Bowie relay going on that culminated in Joanna singing Ziggy Stardust…which was a highlight for me. I love that song and Joanna did a great job of it..

New York Times Wedding

Kestrin Pantera and Jonathan Charles Grubb celebrate their wedding with freinds and family at Jonathan’s sister’s urban garden oasis, Flora Grubb Gardens, in San Francisco, Calif., April 3, 2010.

Kestrin and Jonathan originally met when Kestrin pulled up with her car at Burning Man and saw KJPaul setting up his karaoke bicycle. They later founded the {RV}IP Lounge and many other fantastic karaoke happenings. KJPaul hosted karaoke in the back room and as per the norm, it was the last thing going at the party. The costumes came out again on Thursday karaoke at the Deco Lounge. It was a bit of a slow night…probably an after effect from April 15th. I have been very impressed lately with the songs people are choosing to sing and I am going to start sharing the nightly playlists for a while. I think it will be great to see the different types of songs people sing at the various venues. It will also be a great resource for finding songs to sing.

Last night we had a series of great rock-block challenges, starting with Diana Ross, then Madonna and finally Prince. The rock blocks are a great way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Karaoke encounter results in wedding bells

Kestrin Pantera and Jonathan Charles Grubb, founders of the {RV}IP Karaoke Lounge, celebrated their wedding with friends and family at Jonathan’s sister’s urban garden oasis, Flora Grubb Gardens, in San Francisco, Calif., April 3, 2010. They initially met while Kestrin was singing Son of a Preacher Man.

In 2006 KJ Paul was setting up his karaoke bicycle on the playa on the Sunday before the event was to start when Kestin Pantera pulled up across the street. When she saw KJPaul was setting up karaoke she asked if she could sing the first song. She sang “Son of a Preacher Man” by Dusty Springfield. Upon hearing this, Jonathan Grubb came over and saw Kestrin for the first time.

The following day Kestrin took an extended cruise on the karaoke bicycle. Our entire camp conspired to keep Kestrin in our camp and lots of karaoke later as it became apparent that Johnathan and Kestrin were meant to be.
